Rajinder da Dhaba – Review

A restaurant review of the best Tandoori in Delhi.

Rajinder da Dhaba is a restaurant like no other. Forget traditional waiter service, no tables and chairs or fancy menu. This unique and lively restaurant is all about the food. Rajinders’s serve up some of the most delicious tandoori treats you can imagine. Meat and fish dominate the menu from mutton kebabs to fish fry. However a range of veg options are available as Indians are predominantly vegetarian.

No fancy menu here

Once you place your order, you join the lively crowd of customers across the open plan kitchen shouting for their order. There is a mild ticketing system in place, but the buzz comes from the loud, hungry diners eagerly waiting their tandoori treats.

This is a very popular place for locals to socialise especially at a weekend. Customers sit and enjoy their food sat on the pavement outside or even using car bonnets as table tops. It might be a squeeze but it’s all part of the fun. We sat on the steps and tucked into our tandoori with delight with a large Sprite to wash it down. NOTEIt’s not allowed to drink alcohol on the premises.

There are a few outlets all connected to the same restaurant. This really adds to the buzz of the area. You can purchase all your food from the main counter or if you want specific dishes you can head to the designated counter. For example, if you want a curry, go to the Gravy Counter. Perhaps you just want kebabs or sharwarma, there’s a counter just for this too. Whatever you decide to order, you will be amongst the other lively customers tussling for their food.
