Here are three places in India where we would recommend you stay in an Airbnb.
#1 – Calcutta
In a quintessential Bengali part of Calcutta, you can learn about Hinduism, Bengali cuisine and can even take a meditation class with Rajasree. She is a host who goes out of her way to accommodate her guests ensuring you have everything you need. Rajasree invited us to spend Sunday lunch with her family where we ate many types of fish all traditionally prepared. Not only is her studio apartment cosy and relaxing, we were also able to learn more the city and region we were staying in.
#2 – Darjeeling
Experience a local home with Dorjan at his Quaint Wooden Cottage in the hills. This little one-bedroom cottage with living space and a TV is a cosy little get-away. Dorjan dedicates his time to his guests, ensuring their happiness in his home. He took us on a walking tour of the monasteries in the area and we all drank local rice beer together. He can give detailed information about treks in Darjeeling and Nepal. The cottage is situated 30 minutes walk from Darjeeling but this offers an insight into the local community that you may not otherwise experience.
#3 – Delhi
For less than £10 a night, you can stay in the relaxed, trendy apartment with Vishal in South Delhi, within 10 minutes walk of the upbeat and modern Hauz Khas village and the beautiful Deer Park. Vishal has a number of apartments in the same locality, all of which are cheap and recommended. We stayed in the same apartment as Vishal, he’s a genuinely lovely guy who is interested to learn from his guests from around the world.
